Jakarta Saves Rp 247 Million during Earth Hour 2022 Campaign

The Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency participated in turning off the lights for an hour from 20:30 to 21:30 at several points in Jakarta to commemorate Earth Hour 2022 which fell on March 26, 2022.

The power outage can have an impact on three things, namely energy saving, economic saving, and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission

Jakarta LH Agency Head Asep Kuswanto mentioned that the 1-hour outage was aimed at increasing public awareness of energy saving, economic saving, and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

"We carried out the action on Saturday, March 26, 2022. From PLN's calculation, the power outage can have an impact on three things, namely energy savings, economic savings, and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission," he said in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, as quoted from Jakarta PPID's Press Release, Saturday (4/2).

Based on the PLN calculation table, a 1-hour outage resulted in electricity consumption saving by 171.44 MWh, an economy saving Rp 247,837,924, and reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emission by 160.23 tons of carbon dioxide.

It was carried out in accordance with Jakarta Governor's Instruction No. 14/2021 on Power Outages in the Context of Energy Saving and Reducing Carbon Emission, which appealed to turn off lights three times a year, namely on the commemoration of Environmental Action in March, Earth Day (April 22), and World Environment Day (June 5).

"A number of private-owned buildings, such as commercial buildings, shopping centers, restaurants, hotels, and apartments also participate in power outages," he stated.

Here are the locations of power outages:

1. All Jakarta Government buildings (except hospitals, health centers, clinics, and so on)

2. Protocol and arterial roads

3. Symbol of Jakarta City (City Hall Building, National Monument and its fountain, Patung Arjuna Wiwaha (Arjuna Wiwaha Statue) and its fountain, Hotel Indonesia Roundabout and its fountain, Patung Pemuda (Youth Monument) and its fountain, Patung Pahlawan (Heroes Monument), and General Sudirman Statue)

4. Protocol and arterial roads in five administrative cities:

- Central Jakarta

Jalan Sudirman (from Dukuh Atas to Sampoerna Strategic Building), Jalan MH Thamrin, around Jalan Medan Merdeka (except Medan Merdeka Utara in front of Presidential Palace), Jalan Gerbang Pemuda - Jalan Asia Afrika, Jakarta City Hall Office Courtyard and Central Jakarta Mayor Office

- North Jakarta

Jalan Yos Sudarso, North Jakarta Mayor Office Complex, and Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan

- West Jakarta

Jalan Daan Mogot and Jalan Kembangan Raya (in front of West Jakarta Mayor Office), and West Jakarta Mayor Office Complex

- South Jakarta
